Vacuum packaging is a method of packaging that sucks out the air from the package before it is sealed. It may include both rigid and flexible packaging. The intention is usually to remove the oxygen in order to extend the shelf life of food by limiting the growth of aerobic bacteria or fungi, to prevent the evaporation of the volatile components but also to reduce the volume of the contents of the product.
